Fresh-week3_Casey Sturm

source: Menu insert from Chili's Restaurant
type classification: All caps sans-serif type face
description: Tall, rounded geometric, modern. This menu insert is in preparation for the re-image of the restaurant. The goal of the re-image is to modernize and update Chili's
enhancement: The modern and clear, easy to read look of the type, along with it being in all caps, ties into the company's goal of updating the restaurants image.
influence: I really like the sleek, tall quality of this type, as well as the cleanness of it. The word shown is FRESH and thats exactly what I think this type represents.

America Discretely Saying "Shut Up"

Source:  The internet asdlabs.com

Typeface Classification:  All caps Sans-Serif with an array of the letter "s"

What is it?:  A WWII propaganda poster that told people to be quiet because the Nazi's have ears in the trees.  Or so they thought.

Analyze this piece:  The reason I liked this poster was that it was America being super nice about telling Americans to shut up.  The government got fed up with something and started being sassy.  The government's sassiness is also displayed in the font.  The word "your" is in yellow to put emphasis on it.  Obviously someone has been blabbing and the government is blaming the general public.  The "s" in "sucker" is also larger than any other of the letters.   This makes the reader draw it out when reading it.  This makes it sound like you sibling calling you a "sucker" in that stupid baggy voice that they use when blaming something on you.

How will this influence my work? :  The next time somebody (my roommate) will not shut up, I will just make her a nicely designed poster to show her my feelings without hurting hers.  I also love the sans serif bold typeface.  I will definitely look for this kind of typeface when making something that commands someone to do something specific such as "Give me your money" if I was a robber.

Disclaimer:  I am in no way a robber, and I do not require any of your money.  However, if you do decide in the future to give me your money, thanks.

Week 3

Source: Poster in my parent's office
Typeface classification: the poster features a couple different typefaces, mostly a lowercase sans serif and an all caps sans serif
Description: My mom is from spain and of course has a bunch of spanish decorative stuff around the house
How it enhances the message: the minimal type design brings the image together, being that there isn't too much to focus on other than a light fixture and a partial bull fighting poster. For some reason it just reads "spain" to me as well.
Influence: This image is another great example of keeping things simple and really honing in on the most pertinent aspects of a great image.

The great Gatsby wk 3

I saw this and thought it was super rad! Source/Description: It is hand lettering of the great gatsby and it appears to be done by pen/ink. Object: I saw this on pinterest and immediately loved the colors, the brown and black caught my eye. analysis: This is inspiring because it shows you that thinking outside of the box (ie computer) is still always awesome to do. I mean, hand made stuff can still be good as stuff done on a computer. #teamhandrendered

Dylan Rhynard - Week 3

Typeface/Classification - The typeface used in this paper system which includes a business card, letterhead, and envelope, is a sans-serif typeface. I believe the type used is the Helvetica family. They use Roman, Black, & Condensed versions of the typeface family.

Object - The type is used in a letter system, including a business card, letterhead, and envelope. This is used by all companies to enhance brand identity. The system is used in communication with individuals, other companies, and more. The audience would consist of whomever may be the contactee.

Font Choice & Layout - Although the typeface used is also used widely among other projects, the way it is used is unlike I personally have ever seen it before. This is a challenge, seeing as how the font family used is one of the most well known and widely used of current fonts available. The key to this simple design that makes it stand out is perspective. The way the type is laid out gives such a simple composition a very interesting twist. The font is kept easily legible, a must for a paper system, while also giving an interesting affect to the eye. The design itself is very memorable, which is a good thing on a paper system, as you want to establish a way to increase the strength of the brand. This simply takes the message they are trying to communicate, which is their personal company information, and makes it memorable and interesting, something not usually done in paper systems because of the simplicity.

Personal Influence - To me, this example of type is extremely creative. It helps me personally in thinking about solving such a simple problem. What can I do, ever so slightly, that enhances the message I am trying to get across? The use of the "X" shape, including perspective, really stands out to me. This helps my work in one main way: to think further on simplicity, do more with simplicity, while achieving the goal of retaining the "simple" value.
